Will’s Weekly’s: An Assortment of Entertainment in Austin This Week – Jan. 11-17

Will’s Weekly’s: An Assortment of Entertainment in Austin This Week – Jan. 11-17

This looks to be an awesome week for live music.  The funk is coming to Austin in a big, big way.  I hope many of you were able to take advantage of "Free Week".  The cold front has been keeping many folks at home(for good reason).  What's great is all these venues are indoors.  Great tunes will also help keep you warm on these chilly winter nights.  I'm not a fan of the cold weather, but I know I'll miss it a bit in about 6 months.  Without further adue...entertainment in austin

Monday:  Bob Schneider @ Saxon Pub - 8:30 pm ($10 cover)

Tuesday:  Willie "Big Eye" Smith and Pinetop Perkins @ Antone's - 9 pm (Pinetop is 97 years old and still brings it... truly amazing showman!)

Wednesday:  Funk Dirty @ Red Eyed Fly (12 pm)

Thursday:  Rebirth Brass Band @ Ace's Lounge (a New Orleans institution through and through)

Friday:  Papa Mali @ Lambert's (upstairs at 9:30 pm, $10 - well worth it; fantastic guitar player)

Saturday:  Papa Grows Funk @ Momo's (doors at 8 pm, $12 adv/$15 door - an New Orleans gem)

Sunday:  Mike Flanigin Trio @ Continental Club (10 pm, no cover)

Go have fun out there and stay warm!

Will’s Weekly’s: An Assortment of Entertainment in Austin This Week – Nov. 2-8

Here's to another great Halloween in downtown Austin.  It never ceases to amaze me how many incredibly unique costumes I saw on Saturday night.  What better way to follow up an epic weekend than with another great week of live music!  There are some great shows lined up, including the annual Fun Fun Fun Fest (see below).

Monday:  Dale Watson @ Continental Club - 10 pm

Tuesday:   Mimicking Birds @ Stubb's BBQ - 9 pm (cool band out of Portland, OR)

Wednesday:  Rakim @ Emo's - 10 pm

Thursday:  Marc Broussard & Charlie Mars @ The Parish - 8 pm

Friday:  There are several options this Friday, so I decided to list a handful:

Topaz & Mudphonic @ Historic Victory Grill (10pm), Galactic @ Stubbs, Moving Matter @ The Parish, and Los Lonely Boys @ Threadgill's World Headquarters

Saturday & Sunday:  Fun Fun Fun Fest

fun fun fun fest

Fun Fun Fun Fest is in it's fourth year since stating in 2006. It has grown rapidly into one of the premiere music festivals in Austin.  It takes place all day Saturday and Sunday in Waterloo Park downtown.  It was created with an alternative approach to the festival scene.  It features 4 stages with a blend of up-and-coming acts and local bands.  Considering the festival is less than 5 years in the making, it has attracted some well known artists to the local event.  Headliners Of Montreal and Ratatat make up a handful the better-known, marquee acts.  Fun Fun Fun Fest draws a great crowd, and looks like the momentum will continue to build.
